Week 31 - Crossing Boundaries and making connections.....

Week 31 I have chosen to present differently this week, a bit more interactive. I hope you enjoy my clip?  I haven't incorporated the map into the Powtoon, maybe I should have. But anyway I did start with a map to decide which way I would go. Hopefully you can read it.

I originally missed out my mind map above in the youtube video. 24 hours later it annoyed me so much that I had missed it out, I went back and inserted it into the video and reloaded.

  1. I loved the way you presented your information this week. I couldn't see you map? or have I misunderstood the task of a map?

    1. Thanks Alison, I did have the map but I forgot to include it, I thought it was a bit messy to start with. I guess this is my thought process and how I operate. So thanks for this, I have uploaded into the blog post. As regards with the Powtoon, I guess I am just getting a bit tired of the same old same old and just couldn't get motivated to write. Apart from a session at the Mind Lab before Xmas with Powtoon I haven't used it. So I was learning some new skills to display my info. I was so excited today that I shared the Powtoon with some of my students and said they won't get what I'm saying but I spent some time last night learning some new presenting skills. They were impressed, watch this space, I bet the next presentation they do will be Powtoon. Fantastic.

    2. I think you are an excellent example to your students, not only are you showing them new presentation tools and variety to illustrate their learning. But also the fact that you reviewed your work, took onboard some feedback and then went back to improve it further demonstrates a growth mindset and other key skills we are hoping to develop in our students. Thank you for sharing. I can't wait to have a little more time to revisit some of the tools and learnings we experienced during our Mindlab journey.

    1. This is what we do all the time, decide, didn't work so adapt, add, change. Sometimes, we don't think that the steps we take are important to show our journey.

  3. What an imaginative, awesome way to present your info. I can see that you had awesome fun putting this one together. Given where we are in the term and the pressures of reports/parent-teacher conferences/assessment, any light relief is most welcome.

    It has been an awesome journey, but I am glad that I am now near to its completion. Enough assessment already! Learning is fun (for me always), assessment, not so much (either to do or to set and mark), but such is a teacher's life!

    Thank you for your humour and your views. Made me smile, and I'm sure I am not alone in that. All the best for the rest of your year as you use your awesome creativity to inspire the students you teach to learn and enjoy doing so. If I were a student, I am sure I would enjoy being in your class.

    1. Thank you Ruth, you are too kind. It has been very busy, however, I found this a nice distraction actually. When I thought about what I was going to write it just wouldn't come. I too, am feeling very tired of having to read and post every week. It has been a huge commitment, probably more than I realised in the beginning. I am glad that I have nearly completed it. Doing the Powtoon reminded me how important it is to keep the fun in learning and presenting rather than getting bogged down. All the best to you also for the rest of the year. I'm looking forward to having more of my weekends back.

  5. Awesome way to present your ideas! I'm right there with you in terms of interdisciplinary approaches. This year we have started a unit in art that starts with a math standard. It has enhanced the students engagement and respect for their work. I am defiantly inspired to take this further in my practice.

    2. Whoops hit the button too fast. It's a matter of thinking outside the square and making lots of connections to other curriculum areas. Makes it easier to get coverage that way. Thanks for your comment.

  6. We are very lucky to have you here at Loburn Lynette. Without knowing the full Mind Lab programme, I know how much time you have put into this and yet are always still trying to do something new with the students. Inspirational.

    What a great way to present your information this week! I was fully engaged and really liked your thoughts on interdisciplinary approaches. Isn't it great for the kids to see you putting in to practice what you have learnt, trying something new that still fits a purpose and and then going through the whole editing and changing phase. Nice one, and congratulations!

  8. Thanks for this Lynette, I loved the format and you may have inspired me to up my game also. In my experience as a technology teacher that taught her subjects in isolation from the mainstream classroom, I am a firm believer in the interdisciplinary approach. Yes it can be time consuming & hard work for us teachers but the potential achievement gains are worth it in my opinion.
